Air Mass Meter Question 200 1992

Was doing some testing to see how my 1992 240 would run if I pulled the connector off of the air mass meter. The vehicle ran surprisingly well- is this the norm when you pull the connector?

Of course now that I pulled the connector and had the vehicle running, my check engine light came on. Do I need to visit my repair guy to get this cleared and reset?
