wiring question fro installing rpm gauge & small clock in 88 240 140-160 1988

Hello, I bought a lrg tach and small clock to go in my 88 240 on ebay to replace my lrg clock in my instrument cluster. Iemoved the working clock, installed the rpm gauge and on the back of the gauge at the top I pluged in the harness for the clock, 3 prongs. Then I pluged a female spade (white with red stripes) that wasn't being used before in to the back of the rpm gauge where it said 12v. Did I hook it up properly. The clock doesn't seem to work and the rpm gauge needle goes all the way to 0 and when I rev the engine it goes up. I'm not sure if I have it hooked up correctly or if I have bum gauges from ebay? if anyone has done this before please let me know if it is hooked up correctly. Thanks for all of you guys help!
Thanks
Dennis
