volvo cutting out ... intermittent problem 200 1988

Hello all,

Sorry for the long post!

I am chasing an intermittent problem and need some advice. Looked in the FAQ and am overwhelmed by the choices. Maybe you bricksters can narrow my selection choices and guide me in the right direction

Here goes:
The car will normally start and idle fine, but sometimes going down the road it will start choking down but doesn't quit all the way --- just no power and no acceleration (to me it seems like it is running out of gas). Most times you can pull over cut it off and restart and everything is fine for a few more miles.

Here are some of the things I have tried and one thing I found.

The thing I found is the main fuse under the hood has gotten very hot and melted the carrier partially. This is the fuse on the drivers side near the batttery. Replaced it and resoldered ... no real change.

I changed the fuel filter under the drivers side on the rail. Tuned up with new distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires ... still no change.

Can the fuel relay cause the main fuse to get hot enough to melt the fuse carrier? Does this sound like the computer getting flaky? Can

Any guidance will greatly be appreciated, as usual;
randyB
