Valve cover gasket leak 1982 B21 200

While I was under the hood to change my timing belt, I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance. Made the mistake of using an aftermarket gasket. (The no-name gasket from FCP failed right away.) Seems like the paper gasket breaks right where the gasket meets the curve at the cam seal. I'm installing the gasket dry. Any suggestions, aside from quit being cheap?
