One problem I have been having is crankcase pressure. The rear main oil seal didn’t leak when I first had the car—although the previous owner said that there was a leak—and it started up again in the past month. I cleaned the flame trap and all the hoses. Then oil started coming out of the oil cap. I originally thought the original cap was beyond its use and purchased a new one. Same problem. I disassembled the flame trap assembly—everything is clean and unplugged. Then I tried the trick form the 7xx/9xx FAQ of taking a tube and blowing into the oil trap with the oil cap off. Almost none to little air came through. So it looks like I need a new oil trap. Plus, I think the trap needs a new o-ring. Where the trap meets the oil pan, there is a large build-up of oil.
OIL TRAP AND Drain Hose: I am writing to get confirmation if the drain hose under the oil trap is connected or not connected to the trap. It is my impression that hose in the pan is not connected to the oil trap, but the trap has a hole that lines up with the hose, and there are clips that keep the hose in position. Is this correct? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just don’t want to drop that damn thing in the oil pan.
REMOVAL: I’m a bit reluctant to take off the intake manifold to remove the trap. Seems a bit overwhelming for my current experience. Without this option, would everyone agree that removing the EGR valve would be the easiest solution for freeing up space?
