A question for all you metallurgists out there ......

I have just set up my de-rusting electrolysis setup again to start cleaning up some of Ole Reliable's smaller parts and pieces .. starting with the nose piece... just so you know how big a pot I'm dealing with ... can almost do half the nose piece at a time .... Anyway ... on to my question ... My Henchman/Partner in Crime, who happens to be a chemical engineer, claims I should not use electrolysis to clean up suspension parts ie upper and lower control arms, as the process will cause the metal to become brittle. Can anyone out there confirm or deny this ? I sure would like to clean up a lot of the suspension pieces and refinish them before reassembly. Any input would be greatly appreciated
