Still running with hesitation and surging with acceleration once hot 200 1983

Hi fellas, long time since posting. Life and all that. My daughter's 83GL wagon rebuild was a success since I got it free from the junkyard 4 years back, replaced the wiring, and the like. She has been driving it semi-happily for almost a year. Recently, it started running rough again once it is driven for 20 minutes or so. It has hesitation. It surges when accelerating and bucks like a bronco until speed is reached, and has weak power and acceleration. I am not a good diagnostician and since I had to replace a few parts anyway that I had failed to do originally, I figured I would do it as a process of elimination and maybe nail the problem. The air mass meter was bad and so I replaced it. It helped some, but problem still there. I cleaned the throttle body by removing it and re-set the Idle position switch to get the idle down. Boy was that throttle body a mess!!! Now it idles around 900 rpm. Still too fast, but better. I replaced the temp sensor. Not fun, but at least cheap. I replaced the FPR cuz I smelled some gas in the vacuum line off it. I cannot see any cracks in lines or intake hose. I just replaced the main fuel pump and filter and honestly I am not sure if it EVER was changed. The pump was an ancient Volvo pump I don't see anymore and the filter was so clogged with reddish dirt that when the fuel I poured out of it evaporated there was a deep coating of silt in the bottom of the once clean white bucket. Wow! This new main prump is a bit noisy though. Last year the pump I replaced was the pre-pump with a new little hose on the carrier. However, NOW when I went back to the tank and opened the little door in the back of the wagon I noticed the whole assembly was loose. It was not sealed with the big o-ring and had worked loose. My fault. I have ordered the new seal o-ring. Is it possible that the pump would not work properly with no pressure in the tank and therefore an inconsistent flow of gas to the engine??? What else could be causing these running problems? My plugs look wettish and gassy too. Since the fuel system was so dirty is it possible I have a ruined injector or two? If so, why does it sit and idle so nicely, though still too fast? If an injector cleaner additive would help, which do you recommend? I read somewhere that there are some that are not good for rubber lines like on the pre-pump assembly. I want my own car back. Plese help with any and all ideas.
