motor is running louder.

I am not sure how to explain this but my motor is running louder then it has in the past, while the louder sounding motor I took a trip totaling 900 miles alomost all highway and the average MPG did not increase as it did in the past when driving long distances on the highway. It almost seams a little harder to stop the car. I have looked under the hood quickly but did not crawl into or under the car.

any help is greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance
