(Recent repairs include the alternator and the fuel sending unit [in the top of gas tank] also, directly behind my catalytic converter the exhaust pipe broke off, I am seeking that repair at the moment.)
So, let me attempt to describe what I mean by my subject line. I get out to my car this morning and it won't turn over. I look for lights I may have left on, I don't find any indication the battery was drained. I get the car jumped, it runs for about 10 minutes until I realize my fuel gauge shows empty. This alarmed me b/c I knew I had at least 1/3 of a tank. The car dies shortly after upon pulling into a parking lot. I rejump the car, look at the fuel gauge, and it shows about 1/3 of a tank. To make the story more concise, I repeatedly (about 5 times) jumped my volvo only to have the fuel gauge slowly decline until the car stalled. Each time I still had electric current left, but just not enough to turn the car over apparently. The horn sounded mildly muffled, not as bad as I thought it should've been. After I got it back to my house, I got it jumped and let it idle for a bit, and eventually the same thing happened. I am VERY interested to know why my FUEL GAUGE is lowering as my car is running out of current to support the engine. Each time it died the gauge was below empty. I am even more interested in getting my car running correctly. :< I have had no trouble with my alternator as I just replaced it a few thousand miles ago. If it were my battery, wouldn't my car continue running off of the alternator once jumped?
any insight is appreciated greatly,
Keith Oliver.
