Ever had this experience? Night driving with high beams on, left hand on wheel, right hand holding a 24-oz container of soda, and here comes an oncoming car. Scramble to get soda put someplace, reach a hand to dim the headlights, and hope nothing gets spilled in the process.
So I am concocting a foot-operated dimmer switch. (Rather like my '47 Chevvy had.) Momentary contact normally off switch rated at 6A-125V (about $7.00). Wired so that stepping on it grounds the same wire that pulling the left stalk grounds. That part is easy.
Mounting the switch is the fun part. Haven't looked yet, but it ought to fit under the carpet next to the metal wire channel cover that is under the far left side on the driver's side. Then something to make the 1/4-inch diameter button wider, to spread the pressure on the carpet over a larger area.
Any ideas? I consider my ideas to be absolute genius, but that usually means that I miss out on a really good one from someone else. Let me know. I will be working on the project over the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Thanks,
Bob
