I am in the process of reinstalling my alternator I removed a few weeks back. (Replaced voltage regulator)

I need someone to refresh my memory on the correct sequence for installation and belt tightening. The alternator is currently bolted in place with all the electrical wires connected.

The long bolt with nut (underneath) is currently hand tightened.

The short top bolt with nut that passes through the tensioner bracket is currently hand tightened.

The belts are all on the correct pulleys. (Fan has not been reinstalled yet.)

My problem is with getting the tensioner bolt adjusted so that I can tighten up my belts. I can screw the 10MM tensioner bolt in and out (easily by hand) but can't seem to get it to tighten and create tension on my belts. I tried tightening the top nut/bolt that attaches the alternator to the tensioner bracket assembly but that didn't seem to make any difference.

On my old Dodge Dart, with its gloriously simple slant 6, this is the point where I would use a trusty tire iron wedged between the alternator and the block to tension the belts while tightening the adjuster bolt.

I also do not have a belt tension gauge. Any helpful hints on getting the correct amount of belt tension?
