No first gear in my '87 240 (5 speed manual) 200 1987

I can get the transmission into all other gears, except 1st, with no problem.
I just got done replacing the socket bushings and the linkage bushings because they were extremely worn.
That helped tighten up the stick but I still can't get the transmission into 1st.
I've tried with the engine off and on.
It just won't go.
Any ideas why?
