How much stop-leak is too much?

I have tried the recommended dosage of stop leak (1 bottle) on my heater core with no improvement. I heard the Car Talk guys the other day tell someone to use tons of the stuff to fix a cracked block, but I wasn't sure if that was just a last resort or possibly sarcasm. I know virtually nothing about cooling systems. You have to worry about clogging the radiator, no? Is the pepper thing any less risky?

Another bottle?? Or five...
