I recently had a new(to me)mechanic install a clutch in my B-18-P-210. When I test drove it,I had difficulty getting the car in gear. He told me a story about some piece from the previous clutch entering the transmission and told me I would need to replace the transmission. I followed his advice and procured a transmission which he then installed. The shifting problem remains in all gears. Now he says that when he pulled the engine for other work(oil pan, etc)that he might not have secured it in exactly the right place.
I am neither a mechanic, or a fool. I believe that something is wrong with these explanations. Today a Volvo restorer told me that the mechanic was either stupid, or a liar and that the problem was in the clutch and was probably in improperly installed pilot bearing. He further stated that it was highly unlikely to be a transmission problem.
What do you think????
