Removing glue from exterior paint 700 1987

Hi folks.

I've got parts-in-hand and will change my fuel door hinge and spring as soon as it's light and not raining.

The previous owner used velcro with a heavy-duty adhesive to get the gas door to stick, on both the door and inside the cavity on the car body. Any suggestions on how to remove the glue without stripping the paint? I'm leery to just dump acetone or denatured alcohol on it!

I can just scrape it off too, but I want to avoid rust.

Thanks!

Ari
