I want to order the correct thermostat for my 1990 740-GL non-turbo (California emissions) wagon.
The Brickboard 700 FAQ says:
"Which Thermostat? [Editor/Bob] While you've got a choice, the Volvo specifications are:
Thermostat: begins to open at:
B 200/204/230F/FD 198° F (92° C)
B 230FTurbo/234 189° F (87° C)
B 6244/6254/6304 195° F (90° C) (changed from 87 for replacement thermostats)
D24/24T/24TIC 189° F (87° C "
HOWEVER ---
My 1990 Volvo Owners manual (p 118) says that the Turbo is 92 degrees, and the GL, GLE-16 Valve gets the 87 degree thermostat which is exactly backwards from what the FAQ says, and what some others on the brickboard have opined.
Another data point:
The local Southern California Volvo dealers supply the 87 degree unit when I ask for the right one for may car. They special order the 92 degree unit because they almost never sell it.
Does anyone have an authoritative answer to this contradictory set of specs?
Where did the info in the FAQ originate -- hopefully Volvo service lit?
Thanks,
SH
