Rear hatch door wont open from outside. It worked before I bought it this am, lol! 900

It is freezing here today, negative zero windchill.

Could that be affecting the hatch handle?

I sprayed wd-40 and some de-icer in the key hole to get the key to fit all the way in but it wont turn from side to side, the handle seems to be able to be pressed all the way open but it wont release the hatch. I climbed in and opened it manually.

the handle worked this morning when I bought it, doh!

there is a reciept for the rear hatch handle and repair kit from 12/07 from the dealer. doubt they would honor a fix under a new owner though.

are these easy fixes? when it gets a bit warmer out I will get a haynes or chiltons and try to figure out the issue.

is this common?
