Yep, so the tank only has 185 K and the odometer stopped working, as did the trip milage counter! There was a rediculously small plastic gear that was found to be broken when the dash was pulled apart in order to fix the odometer. replaced the gear, still not working though! the mechanic suspects that it may be faulty electrical in the cluster. any ideas? by the way, the temp gauge intermittently works (don't know if this could be connected to the cluster or helps to diagnose the problem anymore specifically). I spoke to mechanic about maybe getting a used working cluster out of another 240 but at this point I have no leads...anyone know of a place? unfortunately this is not a break that I want to just let be. I definitely need my odometer and would rather not buy a GPS for a quick (and expensive) fix.
