With the springs rains washing the salt away I got my faithful 1970 out and stopped at the gas station. It's got a big bore and won't run without knocking on anything but the hi-test. Ouch! The prices. So I cheated and put in mid grade...even though just a quarter tank of that would make it knock in the past. Amazingly it has run fine with a half tank of the cheaper stuff. Could it be that 10% ethanol in our gas? Anyone know if ethanol is an octane booster?
With the good comes the bad. My experience in the oil heating business tells me that bio-fuel is nasty on pump seals once you get up around 20%..and those are more modern compounds. Any informed opinion on what problems we may face down the road with our fuel injected cars as the bio component of the fuel goes up?
