960 intake question S90-V90

Doing a cylinder head R & R on my '95 960. Took the intake off by first releasing rhe oetker (sp?) clamps and pulling the intake off that way. Is there a reason these kind of clamps are used vs. regular 'ol hose clamps? And could I use the smooth sided hose clamps in their place when (if) I put this thing back together? Thanks.
