Older OEM stereo vs. newer Blaupunkt 200

I've got the OEM cassette/AM/FM stereo in my '82 wagon. I use just the radio anymore, but it occurs to me occasionally that it might be nice to play 21st century media in the car. There's a bad switch in the cassette reverse mechanism which prevents playing through a cassette converter, and I haven't seen one of these old stereos in the boneyard for a while.

My questions for you wizards are these:
1) Is there any point in trying to revive my original Volvo CR2170?
2) Is there a known path to tap into the internal amplifier to use other media? Many newer stereos come with jacks to plug into the amp directly.
3) Is it worth the effort to install a Blaupunkt Savannah CR127 instead? It's an older cassette model, too, but has a removeable face plate and a jack for playing other media already.

Thanks in advance for all your help!
