Oil is brown!!! 200 1990

I evaluated a used 242 DL with 220k miles. The oil was brown, looked like chocolate milk. It did not overheat when I drove it, nor did smoke come out of the tail pipe. No bubbling in the radiator, though I had to add coolant. I'm afraid that this car has a blown headgasket. Please tell me I'm wrong. Thanks!
