A/C disconnect 200

I'm working on an '87 245 with a slightly crunched nose. The A/C system is intact, but I need to disconnect the hose to the condenser to R&R the radiator support/headlight mounting panel. Since this involves discharging the refrigerant, I'm looking for advice on how this is safely done. Normally, I'd take it to an a/c shop and have them recapture the freon - since the car lacks headlights, front turn signals, etc. this is not an option.
