ball joint again 700 1988

hello again. thanks to everyone for the help with removing my old ball joint. i ended up taking the control arm off. worked like a charm.

after installing the new ball joint i'm noticing that the steering wheel is sticky at first. once it is moving it is fine. i have the sinking suspicion that the ball joint didn't come pre-greased. is it standard to have to put grease in these parts or is there something else wrong? also, if i do have to grease it can i just pull the control arm off the balljoint, pull back the rubber and put some grease inside?
