Off topic--- It sure is nice to have the right tool for the job. (long post) 200

I've been doing A LOT of maintenance around the house lately.

My driveway heaved up about 2 1/2 inches because the builder did not use rebar to connect the driveway to the garage (or add lime to the soil) (BUT to be fair...I live in Irving, TX and have the worst clay soil known to mankind, even the state & federal gov't can't build roads that don't become like a rollercoaster after a few years around here...) thus resulting in water flooding my garage when it rained, even a little. Last May I rented a concrete saw and a jack hammer and cut out 2 feet of my driveway and was left with a "Mote" that separated my driveway from my garage. This at least gave the rainwater a place to go other than my garage!

I have finally gotten around to installing a drain system to collect water and move it from the front of my house to the the rear, where I already have a drain system in place. Anyway, I was at Harbor Freight and bought a 1/2 hammer drill so I could drill and epoxy rebar into my driveway and garage and pour concrete back into place. I bought the drill for about $20 because a "Real" hammer drill runs about $300. I drilled 3 (12 inch deep) holes in 45 minutes (using the correct drill bit) and was ready to give up. I had 23 more to go and didn't have the patience to finish the job. I went to Home Depot and checked with the tool rental department. They had a Hilti 1/2 hammer drill that rents for $32 for 4 hours. I thought I would give it a try. Using the same drill bit, I was able to drill the remaining 23 holes in 50 minutes, even with taking a short break between drilling! The retail price of the Hilti drill was $549, new. ANYWAY, this reminds me of some of my Volvo repair jobs when I haven't had the right tool and it took forever, and then having the right tool, like the bung nut tool or the TAB tool, and the job was so much easier.

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 254K looking forward to 300K badge (or sticker??). >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
