So my '83 244GL starts fine above a half tank, then it hits a point on the gauge, and like a switch was hit, my car is struggling to start. I go from cranking it for about 2 seconds to about 5 or more seconds and then it usually sputters to a start. If the car has been sitting for 10 minutes or less, it generally fires right up.
Now, I'm sure most of you are thinking it's a rotted hose on the lift pump like I did, BUT IT'S NOT. I checked it out, and it's leak free. Furthermore, my car NEVER stalls. It doesn't even sputter once it's running. I have read threads here about this same problem, but everyone claimed that their car had trouble starting AND stalled when driving.
So what's the deal? I guess it's not that big a deal except I'm at the gas station every 150 miles. God, I can't wait to get my diesel running and converted to vegi oil.
