How To Remove M46 Transmission Input Shaft Seal? 200 1985

Doing a clutch replacement on our 1985 244 at 205,000 miles (its first!).

I want to replace the front input shaft seal. As you can see in the photo, the seal is apparently installed from the backside of the bellhousing. If the seal was facing the other way it would be easy to catch it under the metal lip to take it out. Don't want to mar the aluminum seal seat. Anyone got a good way to remove? There appears to be no way to drive it out from the front. The green book doesn't give any clues.

Thanks,
