94 945ti is discharging, HELP....... 900 1994

Bought it a couple of weeks ago, 229k, still running strong. Some maintainance, not the greatest, PO said they thought it needed a new alt as told them by their mechanic. I diagnosed with my multimeter and on startup was reading low and would get lower as the car ran, if i stepped up the idle the volts would then recover and keep rising as they should. When stepping up the idle you could almost hear the engine become stronger as the volts increased. It had a bosch newer style alt, no voltage reg on it, and I swapped in a Denso alt that seemed to get better, now the same thing is happening again, at idle the volts drop, no recovery at higher rpm's. The volts just keep dropping until the motor dies due to lack thereof. I swapped out with used components, the battery, RSR, voltage amplifier, cleaned all battery posts and and battery cable ends. Was attempting to clean the grounding block connections but could not unplug them. Anyone have any suggestions for resolving this situation please let me know, just sold a 92 245 and i am planning on putting the 945 on the road this week but this is really screwing me up.. TIA for your help. Tom27840aholic
