Drain cowl project aborted! 700 1987

Hi folks,

I went out this morning to fix my cowl drain - and proceeded to undo the two side bolts holding down the cowl, and tried to locate the third, invisible, bolt/screw that holds the center to the firewall.

I tried the 10mm bolt that holds my AC line clamp. I ratcheted it out, then heard a CLUNK - seems there was a nut at the other end! ACK!

That bolt wasn't the center bolt.

* THERE IS NO CENTER BOLT. *

I peeled out the lower rubber trim between the cowl and firewall, and there was nothing but those two bolts holding the cowl on. No lip or anything that would support a third bolt.

So... I tried to get the cowl off, if only to retrieve the fallen nut. But I couldn't get it to budge. I noticed that the windshield molding lip was more attached to the cowl than the window, and would nudge along with the cowl as it moved. ACK!

I took some zip ties and fished into the drain and pulled the cowl screen back into position and zipped it into place.

So what do I do, guys? I'm really confused about why my cowl attachment differs.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Ari
