245 Stalling and Check Engine Problems--Should I Take her on a trip? 200 1993

Hello everyone! I could really use some advice after a sleepless night. I have a 1993 240 wagon with 170k which has hardly ever given me any problems. I took her in on Friday to have my mechanic (always very thorough) change the oil and take a look at why my check engine light had come on. For the past couple months, the check engine light had come on at startup, but went out once I gave the gas a good tap. She did stall a couple times, but started back up without much trouble. Eventually, the light stayed on and started running rougher, which is when I took it in. My mechanic changed the air mass meter and the temperature guage (which hadn't been working). No problems when I picked it up, but, of course, the next day, the engine light came on again. It went out with the gas pedal tap and hasn't stalled.

My problem is....my mechanic is closed this week (I have every intention of taking the car in the day he re-opens) and I have a family trip planned. I'm really not looking to break down in the boonies with my wife and three kids. Is the car safe to drive on a long trip or should I look into a rental (not really my first choice $$$).
