1990 240 Volvo suffers from "vapor lock'

We have a low mileage (under 150,000) 240 wagon. It runs like a top expect for one nagging problem.

When we are driving in temps above the high 80s AND at elevations above 2500ft it has just stopped on 4 occasions over the past 5 years. It will start right away, but when put in gear it stalls out again. It happens regardless of how full the fuel tank is, gas cap venting doesn't make a difference. The only solution is to let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes and then it just starts right up like there was never any problem.

Our excellent shop owner over in Bellingham, WA is scratching his head on this one. I'm hoping that someone in a hot climate at elevation might have experienced this and figured out what's going on.

Thanks
