Bertone Ignition Replacement 700

I've started working on repairing the damage that the would be thieves did to the Bertone dash when they tried to remove the ignition. If you haven't tried removing the ignition tumbler after it has either locked up through wear (a common occurence according to Volvo!) or has been jimmied, you have a real treat in store. I spent the better part of 4 hours drilling the tumbler until it would turn enough to unlock the steering wheel. I was then able to remove the steering lock portion from the steering column.

The dash support was been bent upward with a pry bar so the instrument cluster had to be removed along with the radio so I could try to pull everything back in place. I am putting an aftermarket ignition in from a street rod specialty supplier, Ron Francis Wiring, and will not replace the damaged steering lock mechanism.

We are going to fire up the V6 this week just to see if it is saleable as a replacement motor, but I had to disassemble the starter and remove the damaged starter gear (bendix). If I can find one in a local repair shop, the car should be running by the weekend. Most of this damage was from a local "expert" in Atlanta trying to hot wire the car during a presale inspection. The motor caught and the starter did not dis-engage which ruined the starter.

I will post more pictures for those interested as we progress.

Regards,
