Again the car will only idle a couple seconds 200 1989

From my previous post, the other day I attempted to start my 240 after it sat for 6 months. It would start, but only run for a couple seconds. After several attempts, the engine seized up from too much fuel in the cylinders. Cleaning the plugs and pumping out the excess fuel, the car would start again, but would eventually flood out, particularly if I left the fuel pump running after it stalled.

Thanks for the suggestions following my last post, they were very helpful. The fuel did smell normal and is probably OK and there were no signs of gas in the vacuum line coming from the fuel pressure regulator.

Today, suspecting the problem may lie elsewhere, I again pulled the spark plugs and turned the engine over. Under closer examination, I realized that the excessive fuel was coming out of all cylinders roughly equally. This probably rules out the injectors. Next, believing the culprit could be the fuel pressure regulator, I pulled the return line to the tank and diverted the fuel into a gas can. I again pulled the plugs, turned the engine over, and the fuel not only poured into the gas can at about a gallon a minute, but it also ceased to flow out of the spark plug ports. Thinking I solved the problem (a clogged return line), I put the plugs back in and attempted to start the vehicle. Again it would only run (at idle) for a couple seconds, stalling out. This time though, it would turn over normally and not seize up due to excess fuel.

After several attempts to start, this became a consistent pattern. The only exception was the first time I attempted to start it the other day after cleaning the plugs. I was able to rev it up for a few seconds before stalling. From the beginning, the engine never smoked and always seemed to be starved for fuel. Even before I diverted the FPR return line, it would act starved before turning over erratically and seizing from excess fuel.

Finally, I cleaned all the fuses on the firewall and in the car. I'm now running out of options. I'm wondering if it still could be in the fuel pressure regulator. Perhaps a weak diaphragm could cause this (though I'm just guessing). The only options are in the computer or the cold start injectors, but shouldn't it still run if the cold start injectors were the problem? Excuse my backyard diagnoses, I'm sure I'm boring most of you by now! :)

Besides having the car towed to my mechanic, where do I go from here?
