Hi All, I'm usually over on the 120 side of the board as I've been building and having fun with my 122 for a couple of years.





As a direct consequence of doing too much work on my 122, I've acquired a 242 for my winter and bad weather car. It's an '81 with a B23E and aside from a few little things that need attention, it's a very good car (i.e. intact, not hacked, all the gauges work, some suspension upgrades, wiring harness is good, engine is fine).

One of the first issues was a non functioning OD. It would engage sort of when it felt like it. I checked the archives as I have rebuilt an M41 for my 122 with the help of Duane (ODguru) and found the order of checking things. I checked the shifter knob switch, it's fine. Then I checked the relay - it wasn't. I had two spares from the JY and when I put the first one in, with the ignition on (engine not started) and put the transmission in 4th and hit the swithch, the light on the dash comes on and all appears well (relay clicked).

Off for a test drive - engaged for the first few times, then nothing. So, back home to have a look. Nothing else seems wrong. I cleaned all the fuses, there were no external signs that the relay was dead. I had another spare - put it in and it also fixed the problem right away.

So my question is, was the first relay just on it's last legs or is there some other fault that could cause the OD to burn out a 50A relay! Just for further information, the OD engaged right away and seemed fine. There is a fluid change to Red Line MTL in the near future.
