Bought a 245, with 130, 000 chassis miles at a college auction for $360 about 5 years ago. It had its motor replaced. The owner, apparently an Army man (judging from the Army base stickers) bought it in Germany (German auto sales receipts) and brought it with him to the states. While the replacement motor is very good, the rest of the car seems to be deteriorating from the bottom up. Even the back gate is rusty along the lower edge. So...the question, now that you have some background... It needs at least back breaks, now. I hear them every time I apply the brakes. I know... "Not good." I've found a mechanic who is willing to do it and says I should replace the bearings while we’re at it. OK. But because I want to order the parts and have a little control over what gets done or not, because I have little to very little money, which rear brakes do I need? I know the shocks have been disintegrating for a few years, so I'll assume I need those. Anything else he could do while it's being worked on that would make good sense?
It sits pretty low in the back these days. If someone could give me a parts list suggestion, with how I determine the right brakes. I would be so thankful. I love this old wagon. Molly
