OD prep questions 120-130

Located a J type M41 for J's '66 2door (into which we installed a used B18 a couple of weeks ago) Even compression @ 150 and no smoke, runs strong, idles smooth. The bonus was that (we decided to replace front and rear seal housings with neoprene before installing the motor and) upon removing the front cover discovered steel timing gears! So that was some indication that the engine had been fairly completely cared for/rebuilt by the PO. Don't know which cam is installed.

Back to the OD

I've heard that D type requires a relay and J type doesn't. Ive always used a relay - one of the rectangular 5 or 6 prong units. J doesn't have a relay and I thought to try and do this without one.

Feedback? Downside of no relay? (He doesn't want the "drops out of OD when downshifting out of 4th" option.)

What would a wiring diagram look like for this setup:

activated by pull function on turn signal indicator, (unused wire present in engine compartment from turn signal),
stock OD light from an 1800 dash mounted,
4th gear lockout switch on standard long shift trans cover, and
J type solenoid.

Next question
Does anyone know if when using a right angle speedo takeoff you can get by with the standard speedo cable, or do you need the longer cable in any case?
I have one of mine set up with a long cable and no right angle drive (toast that cable), and a second one set up with a long cable and a right angle drive (extra cable in the engine compartment)
If a short cable works with a right angle drive, I'd prefer to spend the money on that and save the cable from the heat.
