Give me a day to write up how to wire a momentary contact switch of your choice to provide the function desired of turning off the OD when out of 4th unless the switch is used to get it back.
I know the right angle drive from one of the Volvo's will work to turn the corner and drive the cable. I do not get beyond the OD area so what length of cable to use I cannot say for certain.
Take two measurements that should help give you a closer guess. Measure from the bell housing face where it meets the engine to the speedo drive area of the old transmission and the replacment transmission. If the two measurements are within an inch or so the cable that is in the vehicle probably will work. A wild guess on my part is that any difference longer than three inches will not be made up with the right angle drive and any current slack in the cable.
Another issue that I find impossible to correct is the difference in trans speedo driving gears. The only four avaialable OD driven gears that drive the cable have from 17 to 20 teeth. Usually after a swap the driven gear needs to be 21 or 22 teeth. One either lives with the difference and drives accordingly or has an adapter box custom made.
