How much disappearing oil is too much? 200 1993

I honestly can't tell if I'm burning the majority of it or if I'm blowing it out on the highway, but I lose about 1 qt. of oil in the course of an oil change (5,000-ish miles). Isn't this excessive on a 130,000 mi. redblock?
