Hello All,
Long time no type for me. Lots of overtime at work has kept me from getting dirty with my Volvo's. But as luck would have it I am in need of a back up car and so it is back to the trusty Volvo's again. So here is my problem:
1984 245DL has stripped oil pan threads that leak out all the oil in a matter of days. I have put off replacing the oil pan since I had other cars to rely on. So now that I am in need of 245DL I have started on the oil pan replacement.
I followed the instructions on my Bentley manual and it told me to disconnect the steering gear to allow for the front crossmember to be dropped. I also removed the drivers side motor mount and supported the engine with an engine lift. Now the crossmember barely dropped all of 2 inches and I cleared everything I needed to unbolt the oil pan but I still do not have enough clearance to remove it. There is only so much I can do as far as lifting the engine since the firewall gets in the way. Furthermore the oil pump is catching on the oil pan so I know I need more clearance to get this job done. Any pointers from you 'Oil Pan Veterans'? Maybe I am missing something or maybe that manual did not know what it was saying when it stated 'unbolt the four crossmember bolts, lower the crossmember and remove it from the vehicle'. Yeah right... like it is ever that easy. Any help would be appreciated and thank you all for your time in advance!
