Greetings all,

I am very excited to join the forums. I just bought (yesterday) a 1993 240 sedan. It is in remarkable condition. All the electrics work, all the plastic on the interior is intact with nothing broken. Seats are good, power windows and mirrors work, odometer, the clock, just everything. I am astonished how sold the car feels, and how tight the steering, etc. I feel very fortunate.

The car has 170K on it with an auto tranny. (Kind of a teal green color)

I am a very paranoid person when it comes to cars (grew up in an auto shop - 3 generations) but was exclusively american cars sans the occasional stranded person coming through town. :)

So now I have my first volvo after I drove my buddys car for a week to get it ready for a trip from Oregon to Washington DC (it had been sitting). That car was an 87 240 with 300K miles on it, and he just made the trip no problem.

One thing I don't know for sure is how a "good" 240 motor should sound. The one I have starts right up, idles smooth, accelerates no problem, etc. When accelerating I can hear some light "ticking" under a load driving or just light throttle when parked, and don't know if that is how it is supposed to sound, but I hear no low end noise, and its quiet at an idle, etc. So any tips on that would be helpful (old gear heads will know what I mean by sounding right).

I am going to change the oil this weekend, and kind of clean things up so I can see how things look. The car had some light work on it right before I got it. belts, radiator hose, water pump has been off and some seal replaced (I am told) and it appears that is all correct from what I can see.

Any advice, things to eyeball, listen for, etc. would be appreciated. I am going to go pick up a 240 manual this weekend if I can find one.
