The blue Bentley manual is the best one.

Things to check immediately would be the airbox thermostat so you don't kill your air mass meter. Learn where the fuel relays are and all fuses are located. Check all vacuum hoses for cracked ends mostly around the throttle and intake manifold. Read up on cleaning the throttle body and flame trap. Just a few first off things to think about.
