I just bought some Beck Arnley rebuilt front Girling calipers.
As advised by some other posters on this forum I took the calipers apart for inspection before installing in the car.
All the seals and dust boots look good. One of the bleeder screws in bent but that's not a problem because I have a replacement handy.
The pistons, however, are not the shiny silver I was expecting, but rather a matte, almost "textured" gray in some cases.
One of the pistons, while it has obviously been "refinished," has about a 5mm section that is pretty well pitted at the top (which may not matter because the piston might not get that far into the cylinder).
The pistons also have a number of nicks here and there, and one even has something that looks like a crack going around the surface near the bottom.
Is this standard practice? Are these going to be issues for me? Should I ask for replacement pistons from the place of purchase? Or should I try to salvage some of the better looking pistons from the calipers I'm removing from the car (honestly some of them look better than the refinished ones, which is a shame because my pitted pistons are a big part of the reason I bought the rebuilt calipers in the first place!).
Thanks for whatever advice you can give!
