where does the 1 inch spring go in the headlight assembly 200

yesterday i removed one of my headlights from the 92 to re glue the outer cover back to avoid constant moisture inside the lens cap.

all went well expect for a 1 inch spring which fell out when i removed the plastic frame from the lens itself in order to hammer out the 4 hopelessly rusted 6mm bolts which affixed the unit to the car frame.

does anyone know where this spring goes? for the life of me i could not figure out where it went
