Hi All,
My 3 yr rebuild should be coming to an end but ran into major problems. Basically I have worked from the front of the car to the back. Last weekend dropped the rear differential for painting and to replace all bushings.
When attempting re-insert the axles, after wheel bearing work, I was not able to get the axle all the way in. Tipped the axle on end and out came a "pin". Decided I better pull the gears out and have a closer look. The differential is limited slip - which must have been added? The ring and pinion look fine but there was signs for heating (blued) around one of the shafts for the spider gear. When I try to remove the bolts that hold the clutch pack they turn very hard even with air tools.
I have an LSD from an early p1800 so I tried removing the clutch pack bolts and they came right out.
I'm looking for options and advice?
Put the existing unit back in. It turns fine, but I think I have a permanently locked rear end.
Are new/used rear ends available for reasonable amounts?
How do I search just the 120 forum and not all RWD forums?
Thanks Mike in Minnesota
