I'm trying to sort out a rough-running '92 740 Turbo.
The car runs very roughly and has no power. I've verified that I have good spark at all of the cylinders and verified correct plug wire locations, cam timing, etc. I pulled the fuel rail and turned over the engine and noticed that instead of a spray pattern, the injectors were putting out a straight stream of gas. Thinking the injectors were faulty, I swapped out a fuel rail from a known good engine. Same thing and this was with another fuel pressure regulator.
Now I'm thinking that the trouble might be either a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Is there anything that I've missed before I swap these out?
The only thing I can think of is that the injectors aren't atomizing the fuel due to low fuel pressure because of a bad pump or clogged filter.
Any ideas?
