Parts & procedures - '83-'84 hall sender replacement 200 1983

I am looking at a hall sender repair in my '83 240 (B23F). I found an '84 distributor at the junkyard that I am going to use instead of the '83, given that it has the rectangular connector and the entire part seems to be better made than the round plugged (Bosch) hall sender (F2063-55843 looks like a piece of junk + costs more!). I will be plunking down around $105 for the new sender (Bosch F2062-44561).

I'd like to hear some feedback on a couple of issues before I begin the process. First, the only thing visibly wrong with the junkyard '84 hall sender is the wiring at the connector and the connector itself. Does anyone think it's a worthwhile endeavor to try to attempt a solder wiring repair and connector replacement, potentially saving $100.00? And if I were to try this, is the connector part no.1346793, the correct part for this year or does this part work only for '85s and newer? Granted, I could go through this process only to discover that I am dealing with a bad 25 yr. old hall sender.

Also, does anyone have firsthand experience replacing this type of hall sender? The Bentley manual description of the repair makes it sound fairly easy, with the possible exception of the trigger wheel removal. No rivets or peening, no dremels or shaft removals. Is Bentley correct on this and do the horror stories only apply to the 85-89s and 700/900s? Circlip is off and shaft is soaking in PB Blaster as we speak - thanks & please comment - Jim
