After replacing the coolant temp sensor with a new one I started getting an error code for a faulty sensor. With the intake manifold still in place I was able to get the plug off (I have EGR grrrr) and found the issue. The harness plug is a female receptacle for the male two prong plug on the sensor. Inside of the plug, one of the metal connectors is pushed deep up inside of the plug so that it wasn't making contact with the sensor. (sigh of relief at achieving a diagnosis)
I pulled back the rubber boot around the plug and used a mini screwdriver to push the bad connector back into the plug where it belongs, but any movement of the plug and wires and the connector retracts back up into the plug again. At first I was tempted to just put a gob of silicone sealant or superglue in the back end of the plug to hold the wire and connector in place. Then I thought that might be a bad idea and I had better check with the brickboard experts first. So what do you think?
