My second 544 444-544 1964

On a recent visit to Southern Cal I bought a 64/544 found on Craigslist in San Jacinto. Pretty much rust free except for spare tire well and trunk well at rear of car. I redid (streetrodded) a 1950 Chev Fleetline during the 90's. After spending what seemed like years repairing body rust I vowed never to redo another Minnesota car.

I had a 544 while in college during the late 60's. I recall it was a 6 volt and didn't start too well at 25 below without ether. The only problem came when you sprayed the ether directly on the aircleaner's paper element and it backfired and started the ether and element on fire. A little snow put out the fire and we were good to go. There were occasionally other forms of alcohol involved but that's another story.

I just saw another 544 this past June at the "Back to the 50's" car show in Saint Paul, and decided it was time to get my second Volvo. So while in SoCal I looked for a project car online and found this beauty for $725.00. Cost me $950 to ship back to Minnesota, but worth it because of the time it spent in the desert - no rain, snow, ice or salt!

Should be a great project. Wife says I can't have her spot in the garage so maybe the Chev will have to go.
