I bought an '89 745Ti m46 120K that was allowed to overheat. I pulled the head because of a blown head-gasket; had the head sent out to be cleaned and machined.
I got it back today and I noticed the bottom has some deep scratches in it from when the idiot at the parts store put and pulled it from a metal shelf with no wrapping! some of these scratches cross the steel ring area around the cylinders.
They already machined it to 0.012 and I want to know if I need to get another head to replace this one?
I can get one form the yard but usually they have 200K+ mi. and are beat!
Am I looking for a donor and doing a complete rebuild with new valve guides etc?
