Temperature Compensation Board 200

I have two 240 wagons a '91 and an '89. I have relaced the temperature compensation board twice on the '91 and now the '89 was failing. As I got tired of hitting the dash to get it to work and did not want to buy a new one, I found some posts about bypassing the board and using a jumper wire to restore the gauge to "normal" function. When the board was working properly the temperature was consistently in the middle. After removing the board the car is registering at around 3/4 or about 1/8" from the red zone. It has never gone into the red but stays consistently aimed at the 100MPH on the speedometer. Is this a normal result from removing the board?
